An Effective Social Science teacher chooses a strategy to fit a particular situation. It’s important to consider what the students already know and can do. By remaining flexible and observant we can determine which strategy may be most efficient.

There are many useful teaching strategies to support teaching Social Science. This article contains a variety of strategies to help present and future SocSci teachers acquire methods and techniques and encourage active learning. Below are suggested multiple strategies for the efficient delivery of context of the subject.

  • Cooperative Learning
  • Using Oral and Visual activities
  • Writing and presenting information
  • Using timelines
  • Graphic Organizers

Is a successful instructional strategy in which small groups of students work together on a common task. This teaching method is an excellent way to allow students to think critically without relying on you for answers.

 

Using oral and visual forms of literacy are useful for teaching in Social Science. This includes the use of pictures, photos, drawings, audio conferences, booklets, biographies and interviews.

This includes written activities, such as essay and paragraph writing, questionnaires, surveys graphic organizers and descriptions.

An effective way of teaching history.  It is a way of displaying a list of events in chronological order.

In this method the use of charts, webs, diagrams, maps, templates, grids and wheels can help students organize and display information and their findings.

Finding the most effective strategy on specific Social Science topic can build a positive response to students. They can also increase their understanding as well as their interest in the subject area.
