According to the human capital theory, the economic development of a nation is a function of the quality of its education. In other words, the more and better educated a people, the greater the chances of economic alteration. The modern world in which we live is often termed a “knowledge society”, education and assemblage have become production factors potentially more valuable than labor and capital. Hence, a globalized setting, investment in human capital has become a condition for globally competitiveness.

Indeed, but the big question is, how can we compete globally if the quality of education in our country is low-level?

Well, according to research, English proficiency is one of the reasons or difficulties of the society that hinders of having a better quality education. For us to vie internationally or globally, we have to select and change our medium of instruction in educating young learners. Theoretically, English is a must in our educational system. It is one of the factors in producing a great citizen of the republic. We have no choice but to adopt English as our medium of instruction. We have more than proven that our English as bad as it may be has given us an advantage over many other developing countries. As we all know, language is the most crucial and critical tool in our educational system. Let us implement and strengthen our positions in facilitating the teaching of English language to upgrade the quality of education in the Philippines.

Furthermore, language cannot stand alone in building a great education but additional programs, trainings and seminars will have to supplement the exercise (English a medium of instruction). In order to make this program a huge success, the government should provide teacher trainings and seminars with the right teaching materials in order to perform their tasks effectively and efficiently. We, Filipinos have to embrace changes for a better society. Perspectively, the more we use English, the more rapid will be our development of Filipino as an intellectualized language. To sum it up, English language is the only way to upgrade and change our educational system to produce a better quality education.
