Globalization is one of the main factors why the government has transformed the educational landscape of our country. With the implementation of K-12 curriculum, a lot of people assume and expect that it will give way to better opportunities for young individuals wanting to excel both in local and international arena.
Globalization is the trend of the century. It means a network of nations working together, trading together, and developing together. The gates have been opened wider. More international students have been welcomed. People have been receiving embraces more than ever. Globalization, in its purest essence, is the globe’s way of teaching us that working together is better than working alone.
Because of this, it is just right to say that emphasizing the importance of English language is nothing but necessary. Globalization initially means that people have to communicate with other individuals of foreign citizens. English as the lingua franca is the tool one needs if he or she wants to be a global citizen.
In fact, Oxford Royale Academy claimed on their website that English is need among the professions in academia, science, online business, tourism, diplomacy, management consultancy and finance. This means that mastering English language can foster one’s potential in this world.
As teachers, we have to emphasize to our students the importance of learning English language seriously. That means explaining to them the relation of their dream profession and this language. They will use it when they make their resume or curriculum vitae, their application letters, and in their interviews. Most websites now use English in posting their vacancies, the requirements, and the application procedures. Jobs in some countries even ask for English language training certificates before one can apply. There are free online courses online about teaching the language but nothing still beats the teaching-learning process in a classroom.
Specifically, we have to create and conduct more English speaking drills for our students. I think it will greatly help them to learn basic English conversations which will ultimately help them if they really want to work or study abroad. Letting them watch English movies which introduce native English speakers is also a good strategy. These, along with other teaching strategies, will help our students to be better speakers of the language and better citizens of our country and the world.
