A child catches attention and amazes people in the society nowadays when he is a good speaker and has a command in English language. These children are usually being looked up to by others because as a non-native it is a step closer to globalization, but is it really beneficial to study at an early age?
In this time, around the world children are engaging in Early Childhood Education and care from 0-7 years old. They learn at an early age. They are exposed to different learning materials, educational tool, and conversation using English as a medium. It is indeed a good step in the future. They can be more competitive and language anxiety wouldn’t be a problem. English is a global/universal language most people all over the world uses it so learning this at an early age will not be a waste if time and money. The above-mentioned scenarios are beneficial to a child in a long tern run, but of course we also have few setbacks on that matter.
First, when a child learns English at an early age without being exposed to his mother tongue tendencies are he will not be understood by the children in his age group. It will be difficult for him to meddle with his friends using his second language. Second, many instances that a learner becomes ignorant of his first language. He doesn’t know most native words that should be learned first. It should be mastered first so that he can be proficient in the use language to be able to understand others and to be understood. One should learn the essential knowledge/basis before we proceed to a more difficult one. After all its on their parent’s discretion.
