Dr. Howard Gardner, an educational psychologist, described the Theory of Multiple Intelligences as a theory on how the mind is organized and developed. The theory rejects the idea of central intelligences, it subscribes to “ each his own learning style “. In general intelligence, there is only one “ computer “ in the brain that determines whether a person will be competent or not in everything. In multiple intelligence, the mind has 7, 8, 9 or a dozen different “ computers “. Some people have better computers than others because of who their parents are, where they lived, and how they were trained. According to the MI theory, in teaching anything, parents and teachers can draw on a child’s many intelligences.

  1. 1.Verbal – Linguistic intelligence is the ability to use language. A child enjoys reading, writing, talking, playing word games, have a good vocabulary, and can spell easily. It can bethrough reading books, storytelling, debates, watching films, plays, listening to audiotapes, the Internet, and writing literary pieces.
  2. 2.Logical – Mathematical intelligence is the ability to explore patterns, manipulating objects or symbols, playing with numbers, solving problems and experimenting. It can be enhanced with the use of mazes, puzzles, outlines, matrices, sequences, codes, patterns, logic, analogies, timelines, equations, games, formulas, theorems, calculations, and computations.
  3. 3.Bodily – Kinesthetic intelligence refers to the ability to use motor skills in sports, performing arts, or arts and crafts production. Role-playing, dramatization, skits, mimes, body language, gestures, facial expressions, dancing, sports, games, experiments, and laboratory works enhance this kind of intelligence.
  4. 4.Spatial intelligence is the ability to perceive and mentally manipulate form, create balance and composition in a visual display,to draw and sketch, interpret and remember description and images. Through illustrations, constructions, maps, paintings, drawings, mosaic, sketches, cartoons, sculpture, storyboards, and videotapes, we can develop such intelligence.
  5. 5.Musical intelligence is the ability to enjoy, perform, or compose a musical piece. It can be developed through notes, sound patterns, tunes, pitch, beat, musical instruments.
  6. 6.Interpersonal intelligence is the ability to understand and get along with others. The activities that will develop this intelligence include group works and projects, communication, dialogs, conversations, consensus building, round robins, games and challenges.
  7. 7.Intrapersonal intelligence is the ability to understand one’s feelings, dreams,The activities to enhance this intelligence are goal-setting, self-assessment, reflection, keeping journals, insight building, quotations, “ I “ statements.
  8. 8.Naturalist intelligence refers to the person’s ability to identify and classify patterns in nature. Observing changes in the environment, weather patterns, symposium on environmental factors, documentaries about nature will help enhance such intelligence.
