“Move to Learn, and Learn to move”.
Article 14, Section 19 of the Philippine Constitution states that, the State shall promote physical education and encourage sports programs, league competitions, and amateur sports, including training for international competitions, to foster self-discipline, teamwork, and excellence for the development of a healthy and alert citizenry. All educational institutions shall undertake regular sports activities throughout the country in cooperation with athletic clubs and other sectors. It is also aimed at tapping, training and developing future national athletes.
Physical Education is I think one of the most exciting and fun subjects in the elementary, high school and even in the tertiary level. However it saddens a Physical Education teacher when he/she hears something like “PE lang naman yan” or PE? “may bumabagsak ba jan”? And it doesn’t feel good to hear when a student got bored in Physical Education classes.
Yes, physical education is like all subjects in the curriculum. Teachers, prepare daily lesson logs, long quizzes, periodical tests and or course, rubrics for practical tests. Teachers also do checking of attendance and make sure that students are wearing PE attire. And, yes there would be instance where a student could fail if he did not meet the competencies.
It is just like other course right? Others would think it is just sport or dancing. But beyond those, I value a lot of things in PE; I will share two. One, if a student is good at a certain skill, I focus on the enhancement of his or her skill. And, if a student doesn’t have the skill yet, I may focus on letting him or her appreciating the skill.
I believe that all teachers make ways in order to transfer knowledge and skills to their students easily through fun in learning. Whatever field of specialization you may be in, let’s make fun in learning.
