Existentialism is one of the many philosophies that we use in my current styles of teaching. The subject matter of existentialist classrooms is a matter of personal choice. Character Formation emphasizes individual responsibility for decisions. Real answers come from within the individual, not from outside authority. I picked existentialism to enhance student’s critical thinking to what is available and readily existing around them. . Examining life through authentic thinking involves students in genuine learning experiences and since my major is Social Science, I want them to improvise materials if that material that they need is not available or existing which may help them further explore the things they will need to observe in order for them to understand such lessons on hand. And me assuming the role of a facilitator, I know my students capabilities and skills and will grade them based on their performance and not merely based on the curriculum content. The nature of reality for Existentialists is subjective, and lies within the individual. The physical world has no inherent meaning outside of human existence. Individual choice and individual standards rather than external standards are central. Existence comes before any definition of what we are. We define ourselves in relationship to that existence by the choices we make.
