Look around. There might be no one around, but what if all this time, there’s someone looking at you?
From time to time, our daily lives have relied much more to technology ever since the world evolved to a much more complex and advanced features, including the gadgets that we use, even appliances like the refrigerator. However, no matter how frequent we use something, things may go unnoticed, and in fact, if we are not keen enough, one particular thing will gain the ability to slowly creep behind us until it affects us truly.
At first, it may be confusing for us, making us wonder if there is a spy watching us in spite of how simple life can be, but it is actually possible through a medium—the screens that we look at and interact with.
In today’s age, ways such as ad blockers, anti-virus software, and data storages have been devised to keep us from the modern malice, such as the hackers and scammers surfacing especially from the internet. To sum it all up into one concept, this is what we call cybersecurity.
What is cybersecurity? According to TechTarget, cybersecurity is the protection of internet-connected systems, including hardware, software and data, from cyberattacks. Cybersecurity helps prevent data breaches, identity theft and ransomware attacks, as well as aiding in risk management. When an organization has a strong sense of network security and an effective incident response plan, it is better able to prevent and mitigate cyberattacks. The process of keeping up with new technologies, security trends and threat intelligence is a challenging task.
It seems that everything now relies on internet and computers – entertainment, communication, transportation, medicine, shopping, etc. even banking institutions run their business online. For us to be aware, we should understand and have enough knowledge regarding cybersecurity.
Indeed, it may not be that easy to comply to every aspect of cybersecurity once we’re new to it and still gaining details about it, but if we become wiser and more careful in our decisions both in the virtual and real world, we could complete every step on our way. As they say, “Think before you click,” and if we have this in mind, together with responsibility, we would be able to live life, feeling eyes we cannot see.
