According to GCFlearnFree.org, Facebook is a social networking website founded by Mark Zucherberg that makes it easy to connect and share with your family and friends onlinewhich was originally designed for college students.
In 2012, Teachtaught wrote a popular post, 100 Ways You Should be Using Facebook in Your Classroom. They compiled batch of ways to make Facebook work in the classroom and they listed it according to the following: Resources on Facebook, projects and assignments, sharing, collaboration and discussion, classroom management and organization, apps and groups.
Personally, I use Facebook to post educational links which are presently discussed in class. Discuss classroom ideas with other teachers who are online. Inform the students regarding cancellation of classes. Find out what students are into; learn about their hobbies and interests and stay connected with the students even at home.
Facebook can be a useful tool for education. It is so much more than plain status update. Some may find it destructive when used outside the context of the learning task. 21st century learners appreciate teachers who manage a tech-savvy classroom. Embracing ICT tools like Facebook as a medium may excite students’ interest and educate them.
