Nowadays, social media become the center of time and attention of people from different walks of life. Learners in different levels from elementary up to college are not exempted from exposure to this social media. When asked which is the most popular social media, Facebook would appear to be one.

Since Facebook is so popular among youngsters, most of the time the ones who become hooked in using this especially the children who are studying have divided time and  attention on their studies. However, for those who have discipline in using Facebook, they utilize this in doing their assignments and doing research works. Infact if used properly, these children would no longer need tutors to hire to teach them on their homeworks and projects. On the other hand, those who do not use Facebook properly adopt cyber bullying. The games online also take the time and attention of children in studying.

On the part of teachers, Facebook encourages them to motivate their pupils to study harder if good rapport is established between these two. The use of positive and encouraging posts related to enhancement of knowledge, harnessing skills and developing good attitude could inspire both the parents and their children to strive harder. Facebook could also help the parents of children keep track of their children’s status in class. Sometimes Facebook also helps the teachers understand the background of their learners.

Citing the advantages and disadvantages of using Facebook, the answer on whether Facebook is useful or not depends on how the children would use it especially on school days. With the proper guidance of teachers as well as the parents of learners, Facebook is a useful aid in teaching. Without the proper guidance, Facebook is a silent thief of children’s time and attention.
