What is the Family Basic Literacy Program (FBLP)?

            This is a literacy service intervention utilizing literate members to help non-literate members upgrade their literacy skills and improve the educational opportunities of their families.

Why is there a need for FBLP?

            FBLP is necessary in order to deliver basic literacy to the smallest unit of the society which is the family. With FBLP, illiterate family members acquire literacy skills form members of their family without leaving their home.

What is the goal of FBLP?

            FBLP aims to provide basic literacy learning intervention to the poorest of the poor nationwide by raising the literacy level of all members of the family.

Who are the target beneficiaries?

            FBLP targets the poor family with at last one literate member who is capable of and willing to teach his/her family by serving as a literacy facilitator.

How does FBLP work?

• Household mapping in the community is done by the literacy facilitator.
• Barangay officials assist in mobilizing families.
• Identification and training of the most literate member of the families as literacy facilitator is conducted by the ALS implementers.
• Learning resources and technical assistance are provided to the literacy facilitator.
• Enter the formal school system
• Continue in the ALS Accreditation & Equivalency (A&E) Program
• Enter the world of work

            A literacy facilitator is a literate member in the family who has undergone training as such.
