Women are underrepresented in the fields of science and technology. Only a few women are holding leadership roles in the industry. To date, men continue to outnumber women as the career ladder goes on.
However, in the education sector, there are a number of female teachers have found a room in the male-dominated industry. Female teachers are handling the IT unit
of most of the schools. This only proves that female teachers can perform technical works which are usually delegated to their male counterparts. Female teachers are not anymore relegated to the usual classroom works. They can be trusted with jobs which are traditionally the domain of the male teachers. The emergence of technically-equipped female teachers is a boon to the profession.
This development augurs well for the education sector which is at the forefront of the Gender and Development (GAD) program of the national government. Exploring the hidden potentials of the female teachers has always been an issue. With the delimiting factors posed by the society, it is an opportune time for the female teachers to prove their true worth as worthy public servants who can go beyond the teaching duty.
Conquering the IT world once prove to be illusive but with the opportunity extended to the female teachers, they can now yell that “It is also a women’s world.”
