In the verge of abysmal confusion, the youth is haunted with outpour social realities which infest our society today. The existence of the youth in this era is coupled with a hodgepodge of temptations, subtly silent but ever ready to engulf the tolerant and vulnerable minds. Undeniably, young as we are, our minds are filled with curiosity and the infinite, whopping questions that we have are the evidences that we need information and knowledge to draw effective decisions. Usually we stay confused in crafting our choices – daunted with our doubts if we are ready and able to face these weaknesses. We even become worried of our vigilance in addressing the various issues. Fear encroach our minds, slowly gnawing are morale until our spirit is dying and hope is no more. The question now is- Can the youth continue to defy these circumstances? Should we feign deaf, play blind and remain mute or should we start opening our eyes to the bitterness of reality and act as one?
Presently, the ultimate foe has been silently troubling our youth is apathy. The dreaded dilemma of non- volunteerism is the actual villain of our generation. Unfortunately, a lot have embraced to this notion and unconsciously dragged them to failure. Many if not all, have shown no concern in the issues arising within our midst today as if they are not entities of this society. Many have shown less worry of the degrading state of our morality. Moral corruption has been an evident in our society that even matters which should have been tackled only within the context of marriage have just become casual talks of our youth today. While sex has already become a byword in our midst, decency has now turned out as only a choice. In addition, colonial mentality has been also rampant from our lifestyle that even our actions are outlined from other countries, as if we do not have our own culture and values to carry. Imitation, insecurity and indifference have infringed our senses as Filipinos.
Apparently, we can still defy these obstacles in our society. Full of vigor and enthusiasm, the youth has the most energy to address these hindrances and create change for the better. But first, we have to craft change in our own selves and family. If not in modification, let assessment be our tool in citing our mistakes, shortcomings and unresponsiveness to the current concerns that we are facing. Importantly, persevere to be a responsible and exemplary Filipino Youth by conserving the Filipino spirit in you. Try to be a true Filipino and not someone else. Love our country because there is no better nation other than this. Know our history, preserve our culture and retain the values systems that we have earned from our ancestors. Serve our community and volunteer to activities that will enhance our talents and abilities. Stay vigilant against violations and act as a good model to other Youth in word and in deed.
Essentially, we should never forget that we have the role to play in nation-building. We are the catalysts of change so let’s harness and offer our potentials not for tomorrow but today. We definitely have the capabilities and if we stand as one, there would be no time for our concerns not to be catered by the authorities. Remember, we shape our future and so as today, and as we start striving through our own little ways for the achievement of a progressive Philippines, we also commence the formation of a steadfast and righteous Filipino Youth.
