Filipinos are known to be competitive in the international community. While this may be true, our current education system hinders us in becoming more competitive among other countries. Why does the Philippine need to adopt K-12 Program andanswer thetitle statement?
According to Forbes (2012), though quite a number of the populace are already amenable with the k-12 program of the Department of Education, still quite a larger chunk are not still convinced about its relevance even if it started last school year 2012-2013. They still contest that it will become a problem.
It is not surprising becauseof the popular media. Why does thegovernment pursue implementing the K-12 Program if there are some factors that may affect the effectiveness and success of the education system modeled after other countries? Making the changesas possible failures? Willit assure the students to be more competitive in the field of their choice when exposed to real world? Will it give solution to the increasing unemployment every year? Will it provide the basic needs of the students until they graduate?
It is a basic right of every Filipino citizen to have a good quality ofeducation which is the very reasonwhy the current administration proposed to implement the K -12 Basic Education Curriculum that willadd two more years in secondary level. However, disadvantages of this program are still what critics are attentive to.
So, is this new curriculum really more disadvantageous? Well it is not, students will beable to get sufficient time to get or to do subject’s related tasks which make them more prepared and well trained on that subject area. Another goodreason why we should support K-12 isthat the graduates of this program will be more prepared to enter the labor force.
Finally, with K- 12, Filipino graduates will be automatically recognized as professionals abroad because we are following the international education standards as practiced by all nations. There will be no need to study again and spend more money and time to qualify to their standards. With this, Filipino professionals who aspire to work abroad will not find a hard time getting jobs in line with their chosen field and will be able to help their families more in the Philippines as well as the country’s economy with their remittances.
