Filipino students are one of the most hardworking and strongest learners in the world. Definitely, because of the way they deal with the problems being encountered not just by them but the whole country.

More than twenty tropical depressions are passing by the country yearly and worse, when they executed their devastating landfalls that will hit the land and ruin the homes of poor — not just them but anyone who is living in the path being followed by the storm.

Due to heavy rains and strong winds brought about by these disturbances, classes were being suspended and if worse comes to worst, the schools will be ruined and will take months or rarely years to be fixed again.

There are schools in the Philippines which are submerged in water since the drainage system of the community is not well functioning. Students who still managed to go to school with this kind of condition should be hailed for their eagerness to learn and be educated.

Sailing down south, every day is a new year celebration wherein there are no firecrackers being used but long guns and cannons as private groups and armies collide and encounter each other. Anywhere, any when, whether in the public place or in jungle, they would trigger a gun battle without knowing that children who are going to school will become afraid of the dispute. Some will choose to stay at home for safety but kudos to others who still chose to go on the street despite the possibilities of being hurt or killed since bullets don’t distinguish people.

It’s like going to school is a trial they need to face. It’s like a reality show on television, Survivor Philippines —where you will face myriad of challenges as you choose to stay. Yes, you will feel the comfort and maybe, the peace of mind if you will just simply quit but just think of what great opportunity awaits you after you have crossed that street of challenges.

Not just sometimes but always. We should always sacrifice for our own sake and for the future of this country. Who would have thought? Maybe you are the change the country is waiting.
