For the past three years, Bataan National High School has been at the forefront of innovative science education through the 3As Akay Angat Agham (AAA) Program. Originally launched as a response to learning gaps caused by the challenges in education, the program has evolved into a structured, institutionalized intervention that continues to provide students with essential academic support. With its enhanced version, 3As Akay Angat Agham Program (V.3.0), the initiative is now a permanent fixture in the school’s commitment to strengthening science education and student success.
The initial implementation in 2022 focused on learning recovery, particularly for students who struggled with the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs). Science teachers devoted extra time and effort to offer individualized support, helping students regain confidence in their academic abilities. By 2023, the program expanded to include peer-assisted learning strategies, small-group discussions, and collaborative problem-solving activities. These approaches significantly improved student engagement and comprehension, proving that peer-based interventions play a crucial role in effective learning.
Now fully institutionalized, the Enhanced 3As Akay Angat Agham Program (V.3.0) features four specialized learning projects tailored to different grade levels. These include Project PAL (Peer-Assisted Learning) for Grade 7, which strengthens foundational science concepts through peer mentorship; Project PILLAR (Provide an In-depth Knowledge on the Least Learned Concepts to Attain a Greater Result) for Grade 8, which addresses the most challenging science topics; Project PBA (Peer-Buddy Approach) for Grade 9, which pairs struggling students with high-performing peers to enhance understanding; and Project TLC (Teacher-Learner Collaboration) for Grade 10 Science, which integrates teacher-facilitated peer tutorials for deeper learning experiences.
Through its three-year implementation, the program has yielded remarkable improvements in student performance. Teachers have observed increased participation, stronger student collaboration, and greater enthusiasm for learning Science. The structured peer-tutorial system has not only helped struggling students but has also empowered high-achieving learners to develop leadership and communication skills. The program’s impact extends beyond academic performance, fostering a supportive learning environment where students feel motivated to excel.
By institutionalizing the Enhanced 3As Akay Angat Agham Program (V.3.0), Bataan National High School is ensuring its long-term sustainability and effectiveness. The school’s commitment to inclusive and student-centered learning reinforces its role as a leader in science education innovation. More than just an initiative, the 3As Program is now a cornerstone of academic support, shaping future generations of scientifically literate, critical-thinking learners who are ready to face the challenges of higher education and beyond.
