Last June 6,2016, a seminar- workshop on Gender and Development a.k.a. GAD was conducted at JEAGMHS headed by our guidance counsellor. This seminar-workshop was done in preparation for the opening of classes in order for the teachers to be aware on the mission of the Department of Education regarding gender sensitivity on dealing with their students. Based on the Deped mission that the students learn in a child-friendly, gender sensitive , safe and motivating environment. The gender sensitivity on the part of the learners was given an emphasis. Every teacher should be aware about this since they take all the responsibilities especially inside the classroom. Extra careful should be done in dealing with the students when it comes to their gender. Sometimes ,teachers commit some mistakes regarding on the gender of the learners that later on results to frustration on the students part.
The seminar- workshop was done to review the teachers about gender sensitivity. As teacher and part of the education system, we should be the one promote the mission of our department. A series of activities were done to have a thorough understanding about the topic discussed by the speaker. A lot of video presentations were viewed to spot the differences between femininity and masculinity. A series of stories were watched to understand the behavior or characteristics of an individual depending on its gender.
As part of the education system, being a gender sensitive is very important. Each student has his own unique characteristics. In each classroom, it is composed of 40-60 students with different characteristics.
And within that classroom, there are learners who are confused on their gender whether a male or female. In this seminar- workshop , teachers will be able to find solutions if this kind of problem will encounter. And always put on your mind the Deped mission on awareness when it comes to sensitivity on the gender of the learners.
