“Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you what you are.” On a physical level, you are what you eat. But in today’s fast-paced, get-in-done-quick society, the best way to choose what you eat is the healthy one. There is no comparison between the taste of a garden fresh vegetables and fruits and a grocery store bought one that’s devoid a flavour. Growing our own vegetables and fruits provides fresh ingredients for your meals and there are a lot of benefits of growing our own food such as:
- It helps you to eat more fruit and vegetables
- Improve your family’s health
- It saves money
- You control what to eat
- It is a great way to engage the whole family in physical activity in gardening.
- Gardening gives you the opportunity to give back. If you have an abundant garden, you might sell and produce to the community.
That is why the National Nutrition Council (NCC) came up with a theme that would encapsulate the message of family food gardening. This year theme’s “Ugaliing magtanim, Sapat na nutrisyon aanihin. The campaign aims to contribute to improved food nutrition security by increasing access to a diversified source of food families and communities alike, as well as improved incomes through sales from home-grown produce.
