One of the most practical concepts for teachers is to acquire a correct concept of the objective realities of teaching and learning. Guiding principles with regards to basic teaching and learning process should persist in their minds.
To inhibit effective and productive teaching and learning, the teachers must follow the following guiding principles:
- Regard the learner not as a passive recipient of the knowledge but rather as an active, thinking and reasoning child; a learner whose ability, needs and interests be stimulated, directed and guided towards becoming a potential of the society.
- Consider that teaching is effective when it is based on the psychology of learning making the learner the center of educative process.
- Consider child’s growth and development as orderly and unified. Work with the whole being of the child – not just on mental or emotional development. Emphasis be made on child growth and development rather than mastery of the subject matter.
- Keep in mind that every child is unique. The mental growth and development do not follow a similar pattern for all learners. Understand that distinctive growth and development affects his behavior thus be taken into consideration in selecting and organizing educational activities and projects.
- Select and organize the subject matter, methods, procedures, techniques to anticipate the natural growth and development of the child.
- Utilize the learner’s natural tendencies to develop on building new effective habbit.
- Consider that different types of learners call for different methods of teaching. Don’t expect the learner to achieve equally in all subjects and activities. Every individual has his own strength and weaknesses.
- Create a friendly and freedom environment wherein the learner’s creativeness can developed.
