Retirement means withdrawal from one’s position or occupation or going into private life, or changing to another activity or interest. To some retirement is a time to sit and enjoy their laurels, the fame, honor and financial status earned during their working years. Irrespective of the activity a retiree will engage in, retirement years should be happy years. It is unfortunate, however, that are some thoughtless people you have negative attitudes towards retirees and consider them odd people.
Retirement requires planning, if it has to be reached with a feeling of accomplishment, fulfillment and enjoyment. As we could see around and observe those have gone into retirement, the most happy and very contented seem to be those that own their houses, have children who are already professionals and are surrounded by a lot of relatives and friends.
Properly planned retirement should come with new enthusiasm and outlook in life. Unfortunately, some reach this stage of life without preparation. Such individuals suffer mental, physical and social dislocation. It is not surprising that they become sickly, bored and die early. The worst situation is when a retiree is financially unable to sustain himself and herself. Some retirees have no security at all and become burden to others and to society.
Retirement is a pleasant experience. If one is prepared for it. A few suggestions as to how one may reach retirement with a feeling of stability, fulfillment and joy may help both young and old to look forward to those days.
- 1.Have a positive realistic outlook
One should realize and accept that the lyears do not roll back and that yesterday was history.
- 2.Save
Do not spend all that you have earned for the day, save always for tomorrow.
- 3.Sorround yourself with people who can provide good influence.
“Tell me who your companions are and I will tell you who you are”.
It is wise to join people who will cast a good influence and help you succeed.
- 4.Know and love your relatives.
Friends are important but they may not stick to you through life and death like your relatives, “blood runs thicker than water”
- 5.Learn to love enjoyment and relaxation.
Work and play makes John a happy man.
All work and no play is not good, life will be boring and tense.
