Ever had that day when you can’t focus on the tasks at hand because you were so pissed with your boss? Ever had that bad day when know it wasn’t really your fault but the way your boss treats you seems like he or she is blaming you for that something which went wrong? Ever thought of filing that one letter to end it all and slamming it to his or her face?
WAIT! Before you do that, here’s what I can tell you:
First, try to help your boss realize that it is not imperative that when someone is a superior, his or her position commands respect. That’s a big NO. A superior only gains the respect and loyalty of his or her subordinates when he or she has earned it. It does not only include one’s intellectual capacity to hold the position but also the way one treats his or her subordinates which truly makes the difference.
Then, your boss should also realize that it is not his or her position that tells us what to do but our understanding of the word “insubordination”. No one wants be labelled as such and being banned or blacklisted from other companies for the rest of their careers. Moreover, we operate on our own volition brought about by our innate professionalism through years of study and practice. We don’t just work for him or her to please them or just because they pay us. We work because of the people we vowed to serve – the people who really pays the company who pays us, even the so called boss.
And as a final word, let him or her believe that we work unconditionally for we know that the labor we do is not for the pleasures of man but for the glory of the Lord, our creator, as stated in Colossians 3:23-24 (NIV), “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
- And remember, your boss may be as horrible as you think he or she may be, try to understand that they too as human beings, have their own problems to face and has a lot of loads to bear every day, aside from working with all of you under his supervision because his or her responsibilities as a boss are far greater than yours. So let’s all be nice with each other. J
