Whoever said it was easy becoming a teacher is probably not a teacher.
As teachers, the future of the nation lies on the palm of our hands. This thought can put educators in the highest pedestal even if our profession has the lowest payoff, monetary wise.
On that high pedestal, we are required to present ourselves in ways that may be different to what we are feeling. We are looked up by everyone as an all-knowing being that would never make mistakes. We are expected to be professionals even if our personal lives are not working out the way we wanted it to be.
All of the requirements and expectations put us in tricky situations. There are moments of weakness where everything seems unyielding and unforgiving – some educators have fallen prey to the vicious cycle of such times.
Nevertheless, there are still educators who would keep on fighting for the future of the nation. We would keep on believing that through our grit and commitment to serve the community, we would be able to change the system and disrupt the order through educated means. It may seem like a shot in the dark as there is still a long way for educators to go, but it is never a farfetched reality that we can achieve.
This piece is not insulting those who quit teaching, rather this is to validate that they are victims of a system that needs to be changed for the betterment of everyone – students, parents, and teachers alike.
