Schools and teachers should work towards increasing the use of ICT in education. ICT can enhance teaching and learning process in classroom. There are many reasons to consider the potential of ICT to change the nature of work of teacher over the next coming years. Aside from that ICT can enhance the quality of teaching and learning in schools and can contribute to the upliftment of standards of achievement in education.
Teachers as the facilitator of learning should be conscious about the quality of teaching. Some teachers use teaching aids, like charts, pictures, models, etc. to enhance the quality of teaching. Some are given training both in preparation of audio- visual aids. But as of today, these mentioned above is not enough to raise the quality of education. Technology has influenced all aspects of human life even education is not exempted. Computers are available for improving quality teaching-learning process. It can be use for teaching purposes instead of traditional method in teaching like lecture method. The ICT brings more rich material in the classrooms for teachers and pupils. It has provided opportunity for the learners to use maximum sense to get the information. It has broken the monotony and provided variety in teaching- learning situation. ICT being the latest can be used both at school in teaching, diagnostic, remedial teaching and evaluation. ICT provides variety in the presentation of contest which helps learners in concentration, better understanding and long retention information which is not possible otherwise. The learners can get opportunity to work and provides flexibility which is denied by the traditional process and method. Flexibility is a must for mastery learning and quality learning.
The use of ICT in education can give greater efficiency throughout the school; communication channels can increase, regulate use of ICT in different subject, can motivate pupils and influence learning. For teachers, ICT can facilitates sharing of resources, expertise and advise greater flexibility in carrying out their task, easier planning and preparation of lessons and designing materials, can access to up-to- date pupil and school data, any time anywhere. ICT contribute high quality lessons through collaboration between teachers in planning and preparing resources. In part of parents it will be increase their involvement in education.
Really ICT can have a positive impact in a wide range of aspects of school life. Use of ICT in education is worthwhile therefore teachers should increase their ICT skills. Start using existing available resources you already have. Encourage educator authorities to provide further resources and support and training.
