I can still vividly remember from my memory the methods as to how each aspect of learning or gaining knowledge/information is achieved during my elementary days, even still during my high school and college days. When I mean aspects, this relates as to how we do our research or assignments, how we do our examination, how we do our group projects or presentations etc.
During my times in elementary, our books are provided for us by the US government, mostly hard bound. These books are shared by a couple of students, held by one from the other flap of the book and by another on the other. We do our research by going to the library, searching for tons and tons of piles of books from which you never know where to start from, only basing from the topic you would like to research on. Examinations are written on the board, copied then answered on your paper. And when you missed a class, say you are sick, you have to make up for the lessons or quizzes you missed.
But these episodes, using our technology is slowly changing the way we acquire information and learning.
Nowadays, instead of a 2-3 kilogram book you carry with you in your bag, you flaunt your E book tablet. This however has not gone expansive yet, but I think will soon be. Many schools in Manila already apply such. For one, it is a great advantage since you can actually carry a dozens of books in just one tablet. Maybe in a few years time textbooks are the next dinosaurs.
Review topics and examinations also are nowadays sent via email. Such that the time spent for the examination will rather be spent on reviews or additional lessons in the class.
When a teacher requires for a research, few people would nowadays go to a library. The internet is there. The internet is such a vast source of information. With just a few strikes of your finger tips on the keyboard, voila, you get results for any particular topic you need.
Everything then was tangible and traditional. But now, Internet and technology is a very essential part of our daily lives now, and most especially on how one acquires learning. Therefore then it is a vital key to prepare students for the real world and their future.
Learning is not just within the classroom walls. One can also learn and even acquire certificate and diploma by just merely being online.
These are just a few examples of how our technology nowadays has also already invaded our classrooms in enhancing education. The list goes on and on and will only continue to expand. Technology in the classroom is changing the face of education as we speak and we could never get away with it. We have to face it and simply take advantage from it.
