These are some of the unique duties and responsibilities of a Master Teacher (MT). To

becomea master teacher is an achievement because not everyone will be privileged enough to be promoted or reclassified  for the said position. Aside from the monetary aspect, the title itself is fulfilling and satisfying.

                They assist the head teacher and the principal in instructional monitoring of teachers.

Conducts in-depth studies or action researches on instructional problems.

Serves as trainer in school-based INSET.

Evaluates teacher-made tests and interpret results.

Serves as demonstration teacher.

Under the Salary Standardization Law III, Master Teacher I have Salary Grade 18 while

Master Teacher II receives Salary Grade 19, almost the same salary of a school principal. MTs earned higher than Head Teachers in Elementary and department heads in Secondary schools.

                                Here are some tips on what to do if you want to become a Master Teacher.

1. Grab the opportunity to become a Demonstration Teacher

                During the K12 Mass Training for teachers every summer, the participants are given the opportunity to become a demonstration teacher at the end of this week long seminar-workshop. Since this is a regional level of training, demo-teachers will receive certificates of recognition.  This can be used as prerequisite for ranking as master teacher.

2.  Learn to serve your community.

                Being a coordinator of a barangay or community project will earn you significant points when you apply for a MT position. You may serve as a coordinator of clean and green project, chairman of a committee on beautification program provided it is a year- long activity and designation.

3. It counts to become a club adviser or year level chairman.

                As future MT, you should have experienced becoming a club adviser or year level chairman because this will become part of your duties and responsibilities. Being the adviser of the Supreme Student Government (SSG), of the school publication or other school clubs will merit you additional points.

4. Initiate school based training or INSET.

                If you will spearhead a school based training or INSET, you may be recognized as the chairman or coordinator of a training for your peers. This should be properly documented, from the approval of your request to conduct and the actual training matrix and pictorial narrative report.

5. Try to conduct action research or an income generating project (IGP).

                Classroom based action research and IGP merits a significant point if you will apply for MT position. These should also be duly approved by the immediate supervisor.

6. Publish at least 10 articles or become a co-author of a book.It is an advantage to be able to publish ten articles in a duly recognized website or portal of the Department of Education. Becoming a co-author a book will earn you similar points in publishing ten articles.
