Whether we like it or not, it happens that sometimes we find trouble working with “problem co-workers”.

Every now and then we get to work with one or two annoying co-teachers, or that principal from hell. While you probably can’t do anything to change these persons, you can do so much to cope with the demands of dealing with them.

In my research, I came across with the following tips for dealing with difficult co-workers.

Identify problem people – They come in all shapes and sizes-the backstabber, the meddler, the instigator, the gossiper, the credit grabber, the nasty competition and so on. Learn to recognize them.

Beware of bad bosses-whether you like it or not, they’re in charge. So you must get along with difficult boss or just move on.

Assess your situation – We feel slighted when we are treated unprofessionally by our peers. But before anything else, take time to step back and try to understand the situation. Sometimes we realize that things may not be as bad as it first appeared.

Keep it private-Don’t create a score. Don’t lose your temper at work or confront the difficult co-worker in front of your boss or your peers.

Don’t sink to their level – No matter how difficult the person in question maybe, never stoop to their level by applying dysfunctional approaches to dealing with the situation. These include gossiping or bad-mouthing the person or sending anonymous notes to him.

Try these tips and you will surely find a sigh of relief
