Good teaching is clearly defined with the use of methods and teaching techniques. The two are factors in teaching but to ensure effective instruction, there are standards to measure good teaching.

  • It involves skill in guiding learning. This guidance is done by suggestions rather than commanding. Suggestions are more felt aiding the individual to estimate his progress  encouraging him toward effort in learning.
  • It is kind and sympathetic. Good teaching avoids scolding and haggling. The teacher attempts to create a school which seems to be homelike and pleasant.
  • Good teaching is cooperative. The teacher provides the pupils abundant opportunity for cooperation, management, participation in discussion, recitation and evaluation of results.
  • It diagnoses difficulties. Teachers need and increasing skill in discovering and remedying the learning difficulties of the children.
  • It liberates the learners. Self-reliance and confidence, initiative and independence in thought among pupils need to be developed to make them able to attack their own problems independently and work out solutions
