Internet has been a part of everyone’s lives. From the moment that you wake up, the first thing that you check is your phone, you Facebook account, checking status updates of your friends and how many likes were added on your newly uploaded photo. We have depended most of our lives in the internet. It is as if our daily life is not complete when we do not use the internet. Here are some easy ways in using the internet responsibly.
- Turn off you WiFi once in a while.
Limit your use. Turn off your WiFi. Do not be connected on the internet 24/7. This will enable you to enjoy other things that are not based on the web. While your WiFi is off, face a real book, not just your Facebook wall.
- Think carefully before you comment or post anything.
Will my post hurt someone? Will my comment, in any way, make someone uncomfortable? Am I bullying someone already? Ask this questions to yourself. Some people do not think carefully when the post anything. Remember that what you post will be available to everyone connected to the internet. A negative comment directed to someone can have a grave impact. So think carefully. It is the same as telling something bad to someone personally.
- Avoid posting everything that you do.
Limit your post. Do not post everything that you do: what you eat, where you are, and every single thing that you are doing. Aside from the fact that it is irritating to others, you are now very vulnerable to people who have bad intentions.
- Be mindful on what you share.
Research first. There are a lot of things on the web that are not true but are viral. Before sharing things on your wall, make sure to do your research first. Check the facts. This will stop people from spreading wrong views and information.
- Go out without an internet connection once in a while.
Go out with your friends. Eat with you friends without posting the food that you eat. Actually enjoy the food. Enjoy the presence of your friends. Today, most of the people who are going out don’t talk with the people they are with. They usually hold their phone, check their Facebook accounts, posts photos on their Instagram account and keeping track of the likes on the photo that you have posted.
The internet is a very useful tool if you use it correctly. Be mindful of what you do on the web. Don’t let your life revolve around the internet. Remember that our ancestors enjoyed a peaceful and happy life without the internet.
