When I was taking up the course BEED I never thought of what teacher was all about. I joined teaching when I passed the Board Examination in 1999, and was assigned to a far flung sitio 25 more kilometers from our house. I enjoyed teaching with the sitio people and this was conceived of my dream of becoming a teacher.
I love to teach. When I was a little girl I would play “teacher” to neighbors who were my age. It gave me a certain kind of happiness when my “pupils” would respond to my questions. It dawned on me that teaching is really my passion. I felt that it is my “calling”. Teaching little children is like serving the Lord. Teaching them basic knowledge is what I want and am cautious about, because I am a part of their foundation of their life.
Being a teacher, since my first year in the profession, is a great challenge. The fulfillment of instilling in my pupils values, positive attitudes, and ofcourse, the basic knowledge that they must acquire, cannot be compensated by any financial amount. I consider teaching a privilege. Putting a smile on their faces through the things they do inside the classroom feels like heaven to me, but being a teacher is not always a “bed of roses”. It is normal to have a down moment, and that is the part of the challenge. I would exhaust all means it only to improve the performance of my pupils. It is when I succeed in having the pupils read comprehend and become literate that I am rewarded with great satisfying feelings.
I believe that being a teacher, the molder of very delicate minds; can make a big difference in my pupils’ lives. This is my calling, and I am accountable to God for this. I am determined to always put my best foot forward… for as long that I am a teacher, who have found peace in my work, more contentment and satisfaction in my service and fulfillment in my undertaking for at last my dream… and that is to become a successful Teacher.
