All too often, students perform poorly in school simply because they lack good study habits. In many cases, students don’t know where to begin, don’t fully understand the material, are not motivated by it, or feel that there was too much work given to them with too little time to complete or study it.
Now in the present time, the age of modern technology, where almost everything is high-tech, computer technologies has greatly improved and has had become better. These days, the computer technology industry is rapidly growing and changing. Along with that growth and change of computer technology is the people who almost instantly adapt to the changes. The reason why computers technologies are invented is to help make people’s life easier and to improve their way of life, especially the students. Modern computer technologies make studying easier and fun to students.
With advances in technology, student study habits have dramatically changed. Technology has affected the way teacher’s present information; therefore, students are learning and studying differently. Gone are the days of slaving over books in the library and scribbling down notes on paper.
There is no doubt that modern technology has an effect on the study habits of students today. The positive side of modern technology is that it makes things easier for students to research for their homework and projects. However, it is also right to mention that technologies are also a major distraction for students.
One of the most distracting technologies for most students is the game consoles such as the Xbox and the PlayStation consoles. This may distract students but it can also be a way to motivate them. This can motivate them to finish their homework faster or study thoroughly so they can have time to play some games afterwards.
It has been mentioned that modern technology can speed up and simplify the process by which a student can do their research. Like, that student’s allows the use of internet to access virtually all information that is publicly available. Students can now gain access to information in far quicker way, mathematical calculation can also be performed on special programs where graphs can be plotted instantly. Although it’s easier to access more information, it’s also easier to become distracted from work when using technology, an affliction known as DAD (divided attention disorder). With the temptation to check bank balances, speak to someone on a smart phone or download a song available at the click of a button, many students have trouble finishing essays or doing some important reading.
Thus, it promotes procrastination. The only way to prevent this is to provide students with a much more complex assignments and homework so that students would be challenged.
