“You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives.” – Clay P. Bedford
This passage could be the inspiration of a Social Studies teacher as he or she educates the child.
Aside for being my favorite subject during my elementary and high school days, Social Studies truly may have a great impact on my personal being for various reasons.
It deals with people. One of the reasons why I regard Social Studies is that it deals with people and their society.
It tackles cultural differences. Another reason why this subject is dear to me is that I am able to read on the diverse cultures of different nations.
It showcases previous actions. The past actions of the people in history strike my attention for their bravery of those people is noticeable.
It highlights current events. Not only the events in past are being given attention in Social Studies. Also the present undertakings of people are being given emphasis.
It talks on the civilization of men. It is very interesting to see how people raise their standard of living, from the rough age to the modern times.
It features economic progress. The outstanding accomplishments of men are also evident in the records in Social Studies.
These reasons can create impact not only on the Social Studies teacher but can vitally form curiosity on the part of the learner.
Great things can happen to a learner if the teacher instills in him the impact of Social Studies.
Teach student to learn by sharing him the essence of what you teach.
In doing such you are leading him to better learning most especially in Social Studies which is one important subject that every learner has to deal with.
Truly, G. K. Chesterton is correct in saying that “Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another.”
