Some parents tend to lose patience to their child’s learning progress this is because they tend to compare their child to other children without knowing that each child develops at their own pace and own way. Some can do tasks either faster or slower than the others but that doesn’t mean that they are ahead nor left behind compared to others.
During the early years, a child must develop the ability to accomplish self-care and everyday task. This is possible by developing their fine motor skills. This involves controlling movements in areas such as hands, fingers, lips, tongues, and eyes. This is essential in doing basic tasks such as eating, grasping things and writing. This also aids in the growth of intelligence and develop continually throughout the person’s development. Most of the kindergarten learners nowadays haven’t developed their fine motor skills. It is a must before they attempt to write and hold a pencil. Failure to develop this will significantly affect the quality of the task outcome as well as the speed of task performance. This will also affect their ability to complete the everyday tasks resulting to lower self-esteem and their academic performance might be compromised.
Let us not hurry our child to learn something that they are not yet ready for. It is important to develop their fine motor skills in the early stage, yet we should wait until they are ready. In that way, they will be able to develop appropriate independence in life skills and academic skills such as writing, drawing, and coloring.
