There are a lot of factors that affect students’ choice of program in college. Some chooses the course of their interest, some chooses what’s in line with their talent, some chooses what their parents want them to, still some chooses with high regards to their peer’s influence. Whatever it is that affects their choice, one important consideration is the demand. Students must consider their placement in the future, that is, to secure that they’d be able to land after graduation or that their job will be in line with their course.

Majority of the industries nowadays are computer generated making IT (Information Technology) and other computer related courses in demand. Many IT students expect it easy to land a job graduation and still many of them dreams of going abroad for a bigger monetary value. Even so, in spite of the huge demand for IT grads, many of them are still unemployed probably because of the overlapping number of graduates.

On the other hand, technical course like engineering and architecture never leave the top of the list when it comes to courses in demand. The need for graduates of such courses never decline because of the growing industries here and abroad.

Another profession which is one of the most in demand especially now that K-12 Curriculum is in progress is teaching. The country has a huge need for additional teachers for grades 11 and 12 but because of the change in curriculum, criteria for hiring public school teachers is raised to make sure that all teachers hired are qualified and equipped with the 21st century skills needed to train students properly.

Beyond all the factors that affects students’ choice of course in college, what’s in demand should still be one of the biggest considerations. They must bear in mind that the reason why they go to school is to have a brighter future and not to solely have some fun with their friends and classmates. They must realize that college degree isn’t earned for nothing, that education is the key to success but it is useless if you are jobless.
