Last year felt like yesterday, people were making their way to work and the bustling streets were filled with jeepneys, tricycles, buses and cars. Students would line up after class to vendors that would cater their grumbling tummies from sustaining their precious attention span looking at the hieroglyphic filled-like blackboard. Teachers would stay behind and finish up computing their students’ grades wondering how these youngsters will pass their subject while keeping in mind the seminars they have to attend the next day. It was busy and everybody missed that.

Despite the mundane routine of staying at home for most people, society found ways to keep itself in the loop. A lot of hobbies sprang forth, including gardening. Who would have thought that it would interest young people of the 20th century? Many of these plant enthusiasts started taking care of their succulent children at the comfort of their homes. Gardening is indeed a peaceful and relaxing to do for the plant titos and titas; it helps give space away from the stresses of not seeing friends for a long time or losing a job.

While we think extroverts are dying indoors from the lack of socializing, another interest that has successfully connected people virtually are videogames. Be it shooting games, battle royales, and massive multiplayer online role playing games, the gang will be there. People lost their sense of functionality and purpose at this difficult time. Thus, many have turned their ways towards playing online with friends. The gaming community has never been this “expansive” looking at multiple platforms developers have made available for their audience. Going on adventures, matches, and even looking for an imposter has never been this fun.

People are indeed more online than ever, even telecommunication companies have a hard time keeping their customers satisfied. However, sitting all day and lazing around is not the healthiest thing to do at home. But there are a hundred things to do at home, some would say but not being able to go places surely has its own implications to each of one’s well being. This paints a picture of staying as healthy as possible by exercising at home. Sure, the gyms are closed but a click away on the internet would give you a variety of programs anyone can start with to stay fit while on lock down. It is after all recommended to have moderate physical exercise at least 30 minutes a day according to the World Health Organization.

All those hobbies mentioned are sure to have made most of these people hungry. This brings us to the next thing people have been busy with, cooking. The art of culinary has etched into the chopping boards and ovens of many. Some have even made a business with what they whip up in the kitchen. It is a great source of income besides struggling with jobs online and unemployment. If done cost effectively, even a simple cookie will make its way to the tummies of those quarantined.

It is only a few months away until 2020 finishes. Although it is understandable that not everybody has access or means to these hobbies in the spotlight, the moral of the story would have to be taking the time to enjoy the little things life has to offer at the moment. It has been an excruciating 10 months, it is high time people are able to finally breathe and feel alive once more. The skills carried and hobbies invested in will surely be carried all the way to next year, 2021.
