K to 12 Program as introduced by the Philippine government connotes innovation and better change.  That is why a great teacher must be deployed in the pursuit of high quality and great excellence in the field of education.  In realizing this, an innovative teacher is what the school community needs.

 

To be considered as an innovative teacher, one must manifest the following qualities:

 

Being Reflective.  An innovative teacher must reflect on the thing to do and not.  He/she must meticulously ponder on the ways to make his/her teaching be more creative and stimulating.

 

Being a Learner.  A teacher must keep on learning.  He/she has to learn the latest and most relevant methods, strategies and techniques to be applied in the execution of his/her job as a teacher. Professional development is also a top priority of an innovative teacher.

 

Being Creative.  It is a must that teachers who are innovative must possess apparent creativity.  He/she makes the class not only an ordinary venue for learning but

a door of ingenuity and imagination.

 

            Being Connected.  Build connections with your students, with parents and with the entire community.  It is at best if teachers are well-accepted and well-communicated with the stakeholders regarding all school concerns.

 

            Being collaborative.  Students learn more if they combine their ideas with their peers.  That is why teachers must invite collaboration in the form of sharing ideas in the class. Teachers and students must work together for common goals.

 

            Being Inquisitive.  Teachers who are innovative keep on inquiring and seeking splendid ways to make things better. Asking questions and adapting the right answers will prove his/her innovativeness.

 

            Being Principled. An innovative teacher lives and spends life with strong and great values.  He/she always makes a difference and creates a remarkable impact on the lives of the students.

 

            Being Advanced. An innovative teacher is not afraid to embrace the wonders of modern technology.  He/she utilizes technology to its maximum usage to further enhance the teaching-learning process.

           

            Being Ready to Take a Risk. An innovative teacher continuous to invent and reinvent himself/herself.  He/she discovers and does new things for the benefit of the learners.  He/she tries new ways to make teaching effective.

 

In employing these traits, a teacher may be considered innovative and far beyond the others.
