What is the IP Education Program of the ALS?

            Indigenous Peoples (IP) Education is a Nonformal Education (NFE) program of the Alternative Learning System (ALS) fundamentally anchored on the IPRA Law (R.A. 8371) to address the learning needs, interests and aspirations of the Indigenous Peoples (IP) in the Philippines.

What are the core messages of IP Education?

Family Lfie

It tells about te life of an IP as a member of the family from birth to death. It delineates the varying roles of the members of the family and how these affect the individual and the whole Indigenous Cultural Community (ICC) in their respective domains.

Health, Sanitation and Nutrition

This brings into fore the IP’s care of self and the environment and how interplays with each other. It features the indigenous practices, knowledge and superstitions on hygiene, health and food.

Civic Consciousness

It highlights the rich worldview of the Ip’s ranging from their ways of life, identity and history, loaded heavily with their aspirations, needs and sentiments. This core area also includes provisions of the IPRA Law which was hailed as landmark legislation and firsdt of its kind in the country.

Economics and Income

It presents the system of community management of supply and demand among the IP. It features the IP’s forms of earning a living and care for their communal source of life and livelihood.

Environment

This deals with the IP communication with nature.

It stresses the IP’s strong attachment with the environment.

What are the learning resources used by the learners and facilitators of IP Education?

These learning resources are:

  • IP-mother tongue basic literacy learning modules
  • Session Guides & Formative Assessment Tools (Rubrics) in Filipino and in IP Mother Tongue.
