Motivation and success are what drive individuals in any profession. In the school setting, it is critically important that we celebrate and recognize the outstanding  things that the students accomplish, both inside and outside of the building. Watching students grow and accomplish their goals is one of the main reasons why most go into education.

If you are a teacher, you know that positive recognition is a great incentive and motivator of continued student progress and good behavior. All students deserve the opportunity to achieve success and gain positive recognition in the following areas; effort, quality of work and positive relationships.( Hallam Senior College, 2018)

Effort is about acknowledging a student who is working to the best of their ability to achieve success. These students may or may not be high academic achievers but they are demonstrating behaviors that show a desire to improve. When students are given nothing but negative feedback, they will feel beaten down and will lack any desire to put an effort in the classroom.  But when students are given positive feedback and are rewarded for a job well done, it’s only natural for them to continue to work hard and do their best.

Students nowadays really want appreciation. They want to impress everyone especially in the classroom where they seek feedbacks and receive excellent results. Even the simplest recognition really affects their morale and outlook in life.

The recognition of students fosters strong relationships among students, families, faculty and the community and creates a positive school culture where students feel valued. We must value relationships built on respect and responsibility where the relationships between people, learning and the environment frame our actions. Recognition will increase student connection with the school community. It will also promote the development of gratitude as a source of well being for the members of the school community. As an educator, it is our opportunity to provide our students the maximum opportunity for personal and academic growth. But we must also instill on their minds that recognition, awards, and certificates will not reflect on what kind of person you are. Still it is our moral values, and attitudes on how we become a better and productive individual. These are only an appreciation of our achievements and hardwork. It may be forgotten by everyone. Our social relationship and good behavior is our real reflection.
