The K+12 basic education program has been started in our country. It has been initiated by the Aquino administration where students will have to undergo a new system of education. “This program will require all incoming students to enroll into two more years of basic education. Thus, the K+12 System will basically include the Universal kindergarten, 6 years of elementary, 4 years of junior high school with an additional 2 years for senior high school.” – http://education-teaching-careers.knoji.com
The purpose of this program is to improve the quality of education in the Philippines in order for the students to easily employ. This program also aims to enhance and develop the students to well-prepared for their future.
However, not all parents agree on this type of curriculum or in the K-12 program because they think that this program will give them a hard time and that’s because of additional expenses. Therefore, I search for some statement from the parents of some student that will undergo K-12 program.
“I beg to disagree with this new system, because for me dis advantages of this system are greater than to its advantages. They said that they build/implement this system to create or have a quality education for the students, what is the used of this system if the students are still not focusing with their studies, that despite with this new system they still spend more time with their gadgets. If that’s the case, K+12 is no longer differ with the old system, they just wasted time where in the 2 years added must be consumed in college for those who have plan. And nowadays to have a position in a company, one must have a college diploma. That even they add 2 years there diploma will be still a high school diploma the only difference is that they can immediately seek a job because they are already qualified in one of the requirements for reaching the age of 18. Another dis advantage that I foresee, is there are possibility that some students were not able to finish their high school years, because in 4 years or in the old system many students were undergraduate, how much more with the 6 years.”

Even there is disagree in K-12 program, there are some parents who agree in this program.
“My second grader is a very smart young man, but can be easily distracted and has a very difficult time concentrating for long periods of time. The one-on-one time I have been able to give him with this excellent curriculum has made a remarkable difference. I also have the help of an available teacher, whenever I need help. Best of all, the time I have spent with my kids is priceless. Watching their faces light up when they learn is something that we would miss if they were at a conventional school.”
— Mary N., parent of a second grade student
“This has been a really great system. It goes in depth daily as to what we need to do and how to do it each step of the way. It has a very good balance of online and offline materials for my kindergartner and sixth grader. It has made learning fun and rewarding. It is such a good feeling when my kindergartner masters a lesson—for both her and myself! My sixth grader is really doing well also. This system provides her the tools necessary to learn many things independently with little help from me, other than encouragement and motivation and praise with her accomplishments.”
— Amy T., parent of a kindergarten student
There may be a lot of factors to consider for the K+12 Education to succeed. But as long as we open our minds to change and we will take it on a positive way, we will definitely attain our most-aspired educational standards which will play a great role in our country’s development and will therefore, uplift us from poverty.
