The Department of Education is now updating our curriculum, from the different series of curriculum that we have in the Philippines, now we are in the implementation of K to 12 Curriculum.
Even though we heard the different reactions coming in, there are some people who do not like the idea and some people accept the facts that it is already a time to change the curriculum to be able for the Filipino to compete globally.
Compare to other countries worldwide, the Philippines is considered as one of the third countries that implement 10 years of basic education and the last in Asia. So if we’re going to study the situation, for an instance, there are some Filipinos who graduated doctor in the Philippines, once he/she decide to work abroad, he/she will get additional units to study in order to follow the requirements abroad.
The implementation of K to 12 Curriculum starts from Kindergarten, 6 years primary education ( Grade 1 to 6), 4 years Junior and additional of 2 years for the senior high school. Additional years is considered a burden among the parents and also the students, but if we’re going to understand the situation additional years focusses on the mastery of the skills and concepts of the students.
The K to 12 Curriculum involved different tracks, Academic Track which includes Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) Strand, General Academic Strand, Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) Strand, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Strand, Technical-Vocational Livelihood Track ,Sports Track and Arts and Design Track.
The learners will be able to choose whatever skills she/ he had to be continue on her/his tertiary years. If the desired track is not located in your place, the student could be accommodated to other public or private school, with the government subsidy as a help given to finish their studies.
The K to 12 curriculum is not an additional years of burden but additional years of polishing our skills to be able for us to compete globally.
