An active individual is the result of a learner-centered teaching. In describing a learner-centered teaching we have to consider its features.
1. Learner-centered teaching engages students in the hard, challenging work of learning.
Challenges are parts of a student’s life. The teacher must introduce learning experiences that will make the learners move. The learner’s must be given stimulating tasks that would tickle their imagination and creativity. Moreover, there may be activities where they could be engaged but the point is he/she is the center of learning to be able to accumulate ideas extensively.
2. Learner-centered teaching includes clear skill instruction.
Teachers should teach students how to think well, solve problems systematically, evaluate evidence logically, analyze arguments rationally, generate hypothesis accurately —all those learning skills essential to mastering material in the discipline.
3. Learner-centered teaching encourages students to reflect on what they are learning and how they are learning it.
It is a must that a student will realize the value of what they studied and learned. They should be taught on how to learn things and how to apply them. Challenge the students by giving them responsibility to think critically.
4. Learner-centered teaching stimulates students by giving them some control over learning processes.
Make your students be independent in doing on tasks. Let them learn by themselves through working independently on various activities that need their control.
5. Learner-centered teaching encourages collaboration.
Let the studentspractice sharing their respective ideas. Have them express what they think and feel to their peers. They should also realize the value of working cooperatively for a common good.
Encourage learner-centered teaching for it will be the root to a successful teaching-learning process.
