I have two friends from a utensils maker company. They were commissioned by their company president to go to a far-flung area in Mindanao to research whether their products can be sold there successfully. One friend travelled first, and immediately called their boss to tell that their products have no good market because no one is using utensils. Afterwards, their boss sent my second friend to check the situation. After checking the situation, he called their boss with good news. He said that their products have a very high potential because no one is using utensils there.

My two friends had different perspective on the situation. The first one instantly saw only the negative angle of the situation. Meanwhile, the second one was able to go around different angles and found out good sides from a negative situation. Their boss sent a message to both of them – “In life it is never spoon feeding. I hope you learned something significant from this assignment”.

In life, mostly in learning new things, we tend to encounter a lot of negative situations. Particularly, amidst this pandemic, many students and parents find it hard to learn in a new normal where they don’t receive the usual manner of teaching inside a classroom, no teacher to answer immediate question and no classmate to work cooperatively. This situation offers us two side of the coin, and always it is up to us how we perceive and respond to these situations.

We tend to immediately complain without figuring out that every situation is an opportunity for us to prove ourselves, see light in the dark, learn something new, and be a better person. We should always remember to always find ways and never give up. Always remember to not give up on something you really want and need. It is difficult to wait but it is more difficult to regret of not trying. May every situation we encounter offer us valuable lessons in life. Let us use these challenges to develop independence, resilience and patience.
