The geographical characteristics of Philippines makes it an archipelago with a variety of languages used to communicate with people in their own provinces. Furthermore, several foreigners colonized the country, bringing with them and introducing languages to the Filipinos. In reality, there are a total of 150 languages that are still in use today. Cebuano, Hiligaynon, Waray – waray, Tausug, Bikolano, and Illonggo are some of the dialects spoken in Visayas and Mindanao, while Tagalog is spoken by the majority in Luzon and mostly understood all over the country.
Due to the multiplicity of languages spoken in the Philippines, there are instances when Filipinos are unable to communicate with one another. Despite the fact that they are in the same location, they could hear a variety of accents.
The Father of National Language, Manuel L. Quezon, emphasized the value of the Filipino language, which is regarded as the Philippines’ national language. It represents and symbolizes the Filipino people’s unity. Language is vital in a person’s life since it allows him to communicate and express his emotions. Everyone can express their thoughts, ideas, and opinions about what is going on in the country through this medium.
Language is a form of expression that encapsulates a people’s ideas, customs, and traditions. This is a legacy from our forefathers that provides students with a broad range of knowledge in order to know and grasp the usage of a particular language, complementing their efforts to learn more about it.
The success of learning a language with an acceptable style aids in the improvement of the learners’ performance. Learners employ techniques that are suited for their degree of intelligence, personality, age, and language learning goal. Teachers are in charge of helping students to adopt good and suitable learning styles, but it is the students’ own obligation to motivate themselves to use their learning styles more effectively.
The relevance of learning styles and teaching techniques in achieving great proficiency in a second language has led many teachers to develop a solution that is essential in learning a language that can be taught to students attending Filipino subjects as well as language teachers.
The proliferation of teaching strategies for the past decade had been in accordance with learning styles of students to be properly guided and suited towards efficient learning outcomes. The same through with teaching Filipino as teaching language contemplates various learning styles.
