It is said that the best instructional material is the teacher, so teacher should be “charismatic” inside the classroom to encourage active learners.
Here are some ways to increase pupils’ participation inside the classroom.
- Give students a chance to lead the class. This will boost their self-confidence.
- Be careful in giving instructions. Pause for a while and allow the students to summarize or put into their own words what the teacher said.
- Make the students relate the issue or content to their own ideas and experience. They may share it with their partner or brainstorm ideas to their group.
- Allow students to be independent. Let them choose from a set of options. In this way, you can train their decision-making.
- Let the students present a role playing, or a talk show, or perform like actors and actresses.
- Create a new sitting arrangement or sitting formation at least once a month. This will give a new atmosphere for the learners.
- Organize a quiz wizard to increase children’s attentiveness. This will make them competitive.
- Make fun and exciting games to increase students’ excitement.
- Ask the students to ask questions about the topic of the day. Questions will be answered by their classmate.
- Make reflection or insight about what they have experienced.
It is a teachers’ duty to sustain the interest of the class and make them enjoy studying.
