To strengthen pupils, parents and teachers’ relationship while raising fund, LES SPG 2014-2015 founded an income generating project out of plastic wastes and used papers in school and its surroundings. LES pupils, teachers and parents believe that projects like these are practical solution to empowering pupils, teachers and parents, and one of the strategies to strengthen collaboration and productivity.
They introduced the project in June, 2014 after the body conditioning by showing the prepared cloth bags with two pockets with SPG print. They explained that the two pockets were designed to collect the used empty plastic bottles and used papers for five days. Mrs. Bariacto, SPG adviser, further explained that classroom presidents will be in-charge of collecting these wastes every Friday afternoon. The collected products will be sort in bigger containers by the SPG officers, and will be made ready for transport to buyer.
At first, the project seemed to be an additional burden and thought to consume most of the officers’ time and energy, but these sacrifices tend to prove worthy when they start to record the amounts in just a few months. Pupils became more responsible and eager to help augment income to this project. They bring used plastic bottles from their home and some even voluntarily collect their neighbors’ wastes.
According to Gionetten et al. (1994), women not only manage economic activities better than men, but also use the economic resources more wisely and to the benefit of the entire
household. Nevertheless, they have a bleak economic presence in the developing world.
This write up shares the Limay Elementary School’s efforts to empower teachers, parents and pupils by establishing and running this project aimed at augmenting pupils’ ‘pambaon’ and lessening the garbage in the school and all over the nearby areas in Barangay Townsite and all over Limay.
The main objectives of the said scheme are “A Zero Waste School” (AZWS) and “Developing Concerned and Responsible Pupils and Parents” (DCRPP). AZWS and DCRPP served as the pillars of LES IGP. This project is aiming and promoting a cleaner, better and safer school for every pupil, and was started this year. Both schemes give priority to poor but responsible and hardworking pupils and parents. And in pursuing and improving the scheme, they will be given opportunities of saving small amount of money which they can use in the future. They are not just trying to augment their ‘pambaon’, but they are playing one the most important roles of the citizens, which is KEEPING THE ENVIRONMENT SAFE AND CLEAN. As of now LES has a total of 3150 fund from the said Income Generating Project. The school’s staff, pupils and parents are planning other related projects to increase their income and widen the project’s horizon.
