Amidst health problems around the world, we should go back to basic and that is to make our body healthy. Our body has its natural ability to fight against diseases. The immune system in particular is responsible to defeat invading pathogens and viruses.

One of the ways to boost our immune system is to eat fruits rich in Vitamin C, orange in particular is very popular. Because it is not native in Philippines, a single piece of orange can cost P25 or $0.5. It is not practical, because 2 pieces of orange can equate to 1 kilo of rice, which is good to feed a family with 5-7 members.

Being a tropical country, Philippines is blessed with plenty of fruits. Guava for instance is almost everywhere. You don’t have to spend money, it’s for free. Surprisingly, it has triple Vitamin C that an orange has. It can also be used to spice a famous Filipino dish “Sinigang”. In addition, weekends and summer will never be completed without fresh guava and fish sauce. This experience truly adds irreplaceable memory of enjoyment and making our body healthier.

Now, come to think of it most of the times we tend to patronize foreign products even it costs a lot. The brands of what we wear, eat and use have become label of social status. We forget to appreciate that the best for us is just around the corner. Can we just go back, love and be proud with our own identity?

Further notes, this pandemic has prohibited many of us from travelling abroad and encouraged us to stay home and spend quality time with family while having some planting, cooking and cleaning.

Let us use this opportunity to explore our land, love our products, and patronize our culture and tradition towards a more progressive society.
