Getting good grades doesn’t mean that the students have to become nerds or dweebs, and they can still be good at sports, music or whatever hobbies they’re interested in. It doesn’t even mean to spend more hours in reading books. It isn’t student with higher IQs who make the best grades. Getting good grades is a matter of learning to use study time wisely.
Developing good study habits and expectation in doing homework are some of the issues concerning in success in school. Parents can play a major role in providing the encouragement, environment, and materials necessary for successful studying to take place. Here are some tips that Parent can do:
- Establish a routine for study/homework
An established routine is very important, especially for younger school age. For example, if a child knows that he is expected to do homework immediately after suffer prior to watching television, he will be better to adjust and ready himself than if he is allowed to do homework any time he pleases.
- Provide special place to study
A child needs their own place at home to do their homework. The space does not need to be very big or fancy, but it needs to be personal so that they will feel it is their “study place”. Learning styles differ from child to child, so the place should allow these differences.
- Ready your child for studying
Begin to introduce the academic activities like reading books, drawing and learning new vocabulary words through drawing pictures.
- Offer to study with the child
Instead of making your child work right after school, parents can also designate a set amount of time in helping child doing homework. Have your child tell you a little about what they studied for the next lesson. Help child formulate question to ask during class.
Now, Parents make a commitment in helping your child in making good study habit.
