We are members of one organization. These organizations differ from one another. Regardless of how they differ, these organizations have peculiar reasons for their existence and how they are managed accordingly. For school organizations to be managed effectively, leaders are expected to perform the following task/functions:
1. Leaders act as channels of communication within the organization. They provide necessary networking mechanism for everyone. They work together to provide one another with the accurate information needed to perform tasks.
2. Leaders should act as mediators. They must at times take on disputes before they get out of hand. Settling quarrels requires skill. Leaders who are careless in their handling of disputes may be chagrined to find that they have only made matters worse.
3. Leaders must think analytically and conceptually. They must be able to break a problem down into its components, analyse these components and come up with a solution. They must be able to view the entire task in the abstract and relate it to other task.
4. Leaders are symbols. They may held responsible for things over which they have little or no control and it may be useful to organizations to hold them so responsible.
5. Leaders set priorities. They must arrange each day’s tasks in order of priority – the most important things are considered first, while the less important tasks are looked at later. In this sense, time management becomes apparent.
6. Leaders are responsible and accountable. They take charge of the successful performance of tasks. They are responsible for the action of subordinates. The success or failure of subordinates is a direct reflection of a leaders’ success time.
