As a teacher, one of the most difficult skills to master is classroom management. If you cannot master this skill, you will find it hard to survive as a grade-school teacher.
First days of school don’t seem to be much of a problem but after a few weeks, things start to change. You will notice that there are pupils who are getting to be inattentive. There are who talks too much, talking back, fights, and the list goes on…Normally, pupils feel more comfortable when they start to notice the teacher’s way of handling the class. By then classroom management becomes more and more difficult.
Many teachers then start to panic and immediately impose rewards or punishment. Actually, there are notable persons who believe that the two are not advisable for pupils who respond to the rewards begin to do their work and behave only if a reward is involved. At the same time, many pupils who thrive on negative attention actually begin to seek out the punishment.
The key to elementary classroom management is to keep all of your pupils actively involved in all of your lessons. Teachers who utilized various designs, techniques and activities suited to the different kinds of learners don’t only maximize learning but also impose better way of classroom management. Keeping the pupils busy for the whole day will definitely lead to a composed condition.
A teacher may also develop a behavior action plan wherein he/she let his/her pupils take responsibility for their actions. First, a pupil must identify the inappropriate behavior then determines why it is inappropriate. Finally, how he plans to stop the inappropriate behavior.
Classroom management approach is significantly better than simply punishing the pupils for the misbehavior for this has long-term results. More so, it leads the pupils to control themselves without getting afraid of the usual punishments.
