Napoleon Bonaparte was one of the noted statesman and military leader of France during the French Revolution. He led successful military campaigns and rose to prominence by becoming an emperor until his defeat during his last campaign and defeat at the Battle of Waterloo in Belgium. The battle spelled the imminent loss of the French army under Napoleon to the Seventh Coalition headed by the Duke of Wellington due to one major factor, they were outnumbered.
The mentioned part of history is but a glimpse of the rise and fall of a great military man in the Battle of Waterloo. Neither, it is meant to discourage learners nor put doubt into their perspective about the so-called “Waterloos” in their study. Rather, it simplifies an encouragement for learners to take more interest in gaining knowledge in school especially in their Math Subjects. The more inspired they become they will realize that learning mathematics is fun along the path of learning.
Knowingly or unknowingly, each of us must realize that every moment of every day is about numbers. To take interest with the knowledge that comes from mathematical study, individual learner will eventually realize the usefulness and benefits from it when applied to their daily activities.
Numbers are inherent and indispensible to life. Without the knowledge about it, all sciences that we may know of will be left as a big question mark. It can be likened to a short story having a beginning but without an ending. Many things of vital concern are expected not to be given disclosures. Like, problems will never have solutions and decisions will be left void of prudency and discernment.
We will find it as common that in making necessary action to resolve daily concerns and issues, mathematics has to be primarily considered. Math as a foundational tool the circumstances and situations that needs attention and answer can be taken care and dealt with in real-time.
Applied mathematics is fit and suited in bringing the various learning gained into practical application. The very purpose of having mathematics as a part of the whole educational curriculum is to hone and guide individual learners to the pathway of life even after they finished their schooling. It extends to their career, economic, and social life that encompass a future where numbers cannot be without.
It is to be reiterated that the lesson taught about Napoleon’s waterloo must serve as an inspiration to students to bring on their learning the study on numbers instead of considering the process as a struggle. Undeniably, Math is always fun to learn with one looking at the infinity ahead.
