Some pupils especially those who are put in the last sections do poorly many times in their subjects because they choose not to do the class work or home work. Assignments are essential in the learning process for it reinforces the lessons that were tackled the whole day. It is also given to test the mastery of the pupils regarding the lesson.

Tip Number 1 – Post Grades in Classroom. Posting grades weekly allows pupils to see that they are indeed missing a few or many assignments. Some pupils complete the work but forget to submit it to their teacher. Posting grades allows the pupils to check that they have everything submitted to their teacher.

Tip Number 2 – Send Home Progress Reports. Every quarter, send home a progress report to be signed by the parent. The progress report should list the grade and total number of assignments that were done by the pupils. If the pupils do not bring back the report signed, then the teacher should call the parent.

Tip Number 3 – Communicate with Parents. Find time to communicate with parents about missing assignments. Even the world seems busy nowadays; many parents do have cellular phones now. Home visitation should follow if the pupil constantly misses homeworks.

Communication with the pupils and the parent is the key to student success. If parents are unresponsive, teachers should find ways to communicate with them. Many times pupils will become successful when teachers keep following up on missing assignments and show that they truly care about the pupils.
